advertisement
The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) recently approved plans to upgrade three BNSF Railway Co. grade crossings. In addition, the commission will provide monies from the Grade Crossing Protection Fund (GCPF) to cover 85 percent to 95 percent of project costs, which are estimated to total more than $690,000.
The approved projects call for installing automatic flashing light signals and gates, and relocating highway approaches at a crossing near Oneida; installing automatic flashing light signals and gates at a crossing near Zearing; and installing automatic flashing light signals and gates at a crossing near Cameron. All three projects are scheduled to be completed by November 2010.
BNSF will pay warning device installation costs not covered by the GCPF, as well as future operating and maintenance expenses.
