Illinois commission OKs two grade crossing improvement projects

advertisement

The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) recently approved plans to upgrade two grade crossings and provide state funds to help finance the projects.

The commission blessed the installation of automatic flashing light signals and gates at a BNSF Railway Co. crossing near Toluca, and the installation of automatic flashing light signals/gates with constant warning time control circuitry at a Union Pacific Railroad crossing in Union. Both projects are slated for completion by December 2010.

The ICC will provide $279,000 from the Grade Crossing Protection Fund to cover 95 percent of the BNSF project costs and $156,000 from the fund to cover 85 percent of the UP project’s cost. The Class Is will cover remaining expenses and future maintenance costs.
