Illinois port gains TIGER grant for rail loop
advertisement
The Tri-City Port District recently received a $6 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) to help fund an intermodal hub project in Granite City, Ill.
The federal funds will enable the district to build the South Rail Loop project, which calls for adding 9,600 feet of rail at the port.
The district plans to secure additional funding for the $23 million intermodal hub project and has applied for a TIGER II grant. The grants will be awarded to projects that are deemed to have a significant impact on the nation, a region or metropolitan area, as well as create jobs, according to the USDOT. TIGER II grant applications were due yesterday.
