On Sept. 6, former Norfolk Southern Corp. director W.H. Krome George died. He was 86.
George served as chairman and chief executive officer of aluminum product producer Alcoa. He also served on the board of numerous organizations, including the Pullman Co., Mellon Bank and International Paper, and was a long-time supporter of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
George served as an NS board member from 1979 to 1990, during which time the railroad grew in size as a result of the Norfolk and Western Railway, and Southern Railway merger.
