Last week, the director of India’s Ministry of Railways paid a visit to BNSF Railway Co. to study the Class I’s freight operations. Prior to arriving at the Class I, Arun Arora toured EMD Diesel Inc.’s locomotive manufacturing and assembly plants in London, Ontario.

The India Railway is producing high-horsepower EMD diesel locomotives, and plans to build and operate dedicated freight corridors featuring high-axle load capacity.

"Since we have heard about BNSF’s size, scale of operations and productivity, we wanted to get some idea about it first hand,” said Arora in a prepared statement. “A number of issues being faced by India Railway today are quite similar to the ones faced by BNSF earlier or at present.”
