The Indian Railways recently contracted Union Switch & Signal Inc. to install a train-control system on the Madras Beach/Madras Central-Gummidipundi section of the Southern Railway.
Designed to help the railway improve safety, increase speed and monitor traffic, the train protection and warning system is the first to use international specifications established by the International Union of Railways and signaling industry for European Train Control System standards, according to a prepared statement.
