Indiana economic development agency issues RFP for inland intermodal terminal

Southwest Indiana Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) is seeking proposals from firms interested in evaluating the feasibility of developing an inland intermodal facility in southwest Indiana.

A report conducted by R.L. Banks & Associates in 2006 for Gibson County, Ind., provided the basis for a new study, the economic development agency said. The study will refine estimates for multi-modal traffic patterns within the region; identify interest from railroads, shippers and developers; quantify the economic impact and capital costs; identify potential sites; and develop an outline of necessary implementation steps.

"Our hope is that the new study will go beyond the feasibility of the project and help us make the necessary links with key railroad partners and national developers," said Southwest Indiana WIRED Executive Director Joe Dedman in a prepared statement.

For more information or to download the request for proposals, log onto www.southwestindianawired.com. Proposals must be submitted by June 23.
