Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Interfleet Technology recently designed a new Web-based information technology system for the United Kingdom’s Rail Safety and Standards Board. Rail workers can use the system to submit National Incident Reports (NIRs), the UK rail industry’s method of communicating safety-related vehicle, plant and equipment defects to system operators, and other industry stakeholders and suppliers.
Workers previously submitted reports via fax. Using NIR-Online, they now can submit reports via a secure Web site and database accessible only to designated users from rail-related companies.
The NIR will be sent to the National Control Centre in London, which will validate the report and disseminate it to every NIR-Online user via email. The new system will speed the communication process and reduce errors, according to Interfleet.
