Intermodal Transportation Institute 'capacity' summit set

The University of Denver’s Intermodal Transportation Institute (ITI) this fall will host a summit meeting focusing on North American airport, seaport and rail capacity — specifically, the lack thereof.

Featured guests at the summit, to be held in Denver Oct. 18-19, include U.S. Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta, Mexico’s Secretary of Communications and Transportation Pedro Cerisola y Weber, and Canada’s Minister of Transport David Collenette. Senior North American transportation executives, as well as government officials from the three countries, also will participate in panel presentations.

"Our three nations face a growing threat to the timely flow of goods and people because our transport systems are running at capacity, and it is growing increasingly difficult to expand them," said Thomas Finkbiner, chief executive officer of Quality Distribution Inc. and ITI board chairman, in a prepared statement. "In these meetings, the three governments can pool their experiences at adding and making better use of our terminals, highways and rail lines."
