The University of Denver’s Intermodal Transportation Institute (ITI) and National Center for Intermodal Transportation (NCIT) recently released a white paper in response to the Federal Railroad Administration’s (FRA) call for input on the proposed National Rail Plan.

In addition to answering 10 questions posed by the FRA, ITI and NCIT officials included a recommendation in the white paper that suggests the National Rail Plan be an integral part of a “new, visionary” 21st century national transportation policy, according to a prepared statement.

The plan should promote the integration of all modes into a connected, intermodal system for the movement of both goods and people; promote the use of new energy technologies to reduce the nation’s dependence on fossil fuels; and address the funding of an “ethical, 21st century intermodal transportation network” with sustainable sources that would finance both the cost of initial infrastructure and entire lifecycle expenses, according to the white paper.

ITI offers an Executive Masters Program that awards a master of science in intermodal transportation management degree; NCIT is a partnership between the University of Denver and Mississippi State University.
