Intermodal service provider's system requires pre-set delivery times

CrossRoad Carriers March 25 launched SERVICE PLUS++, a system designed to remove days from intermodal transit time for third-party logistics customers.
CrossRoad Carriers' system would require all destination draymen to pre-set delivery appointments before the company's trailers or containers arrive at a delivering railroad terminal.
Any drayman refusing to participate with CrossRoad Carriers — which provides intermodal service to third-party logistics companies through a network comprising 13 railroads, 12 stacktrain operators and hundreds of draymen — would not be included in SERVICE PLUS++.
The company recently redesigned its computer system to provide daily tracing reports, and enable CrossRoad Carriers to fax customers a scheduled delivery appointment and delivery notification.
CrossRoad Carriers officials believe the system would help buck some shippers' view that intermodal is slower than over-the-road service.
"Railroads have invested millions of dollars in guaranteed transit schedules, equipment investments, upgrading and improving terminals, and improved train speeds and technology," said CrossRoad Carriers President Daniel Yoest in a prepared statement. "Now, we're taking those improvements, and putting in place practices and procedures that will pass these efficiencies through to the customer."
