International railway union obtains recognition for online 'Eco' tool

The International Union of Railways (UIC) recently received an award from the Association of Corporate Travel Executives for its EcoPassenger tool.
Launched earlier this year, the EcoPassenger tool (accessible at www.ecopassenger.org) calculates the energy consumption and emissions of passenger trains, cars and airplanes so travelers can compare the environmental impacts of different modes.
UIC also has launched the EcoTransIT tool (www.ecotransit.org), which calculates the same variables for freight trains, ships, airplanes and trucks.
