The International Union of Railways (UIC) has begun the countdown to the 10th world symposium on level crossings to be held June 24-26, 2008, in Paris — only the second time the event will take place in Europe.
To be held at the UIC's Paris headquarters, Level Crossing 2008 will focus on level crossing safety and trespass prevention. Topics include advances in level crossing technology and operation, best practices in crossing safety and trespass prevention, and international cooperation.
The union is organizing the symposium in conjunction with the French Ministry of Transport, French national railway company SNCF and French railway operator Reseau Ferre de France. The event previously has been held in Australia, Canada, the United States and United Kingdom.
