International transit organizations stress need for security analyses
advertisement
At a "Personal Security in Public Transport" conference last week, the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) and International Union of Railways (UIC) signed a declaration on anti-terrorism aimed at public transportation.
The declaration encourages member transit operators to conduct vulnerability analyses of their networks, and federal security authorities to monitor terrorist threats and inform transit agencies about potential threats as quickly as possible.
During times of heightened threat alert, security authorities should maintain a presence in areas with high concentrations of people in and around transportation systems, the declaration states.
The associations also encourages members to organize drills with security authorities, and be alert for potential bacteriological, radiological, nuclear and chemical threats.
