During the 2010 legislative session, Iowa’s general assembly appropriated $7.5 million to the Iowa Department of Transportation to issue grants for rail projects, including those involving wind energy rail ports.

The commission approved the following grants:
• $3 million for a Manly Terminal wind rail port in Worth County;
• $3 million for a Southbridge rail yard in Sioux City;
• $1.05 million for the Wind Energy Supply Chain Industrial Park in Iowa City; and
• $443,800 for a Lincoln Way rail port in Clinton.
