Italian railway Trenitalia recently awarded a $292 million contract to ALSTOM Transport to provide 12 PENDOLINO trainsets.

Reaching top speeds of 155 mph and providing capacity for 430 passengers, the seven-car trains are designed with a tilting system to negotiate curves at higher speeds than conventional trains, according to ALSTOM.

Scheduled to be delivered between November 2006 and September 2007, the trains will be built at ALSTOM’s Savigliano, Italy, plant, with components supplied by other European ALSTOM sites.
