It's 'Tranny' time again: TMCA awards honor transportation firms' marketing achievements

On May 4, the Transportation Marketing & Communications Association (TMCA) presented 2004 "Tranny" Awards to more than 90 North American transportation firms at the association's annual conference and educational forum in Indian Wells, Calif.

Introduced more than 50 years ago and divided into 10 categories, Trannys recognize freight- and passenger-transportation companies' efforts to develop creative marketing and communications programs.

In the "Integrated Communications Program" category, TMCA presented awards of excellence to United Parcel Service, Yellow Corp., Con-Way Transportation Services, Amtrak, The UPS Store, LM&O Advertising and Maryland Transit Administration. Awards of merit went to Chicago Transit Authority, Freightliner L.L.C., Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority, New Jersey Transit, AIMS Logistics, Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, Gabriel Technologies L.L.C., MTA New York City Transit, Crowley Maritime Corp., P&O Nedlloyd, FedEx Freight and the city of Tempe, Ariz.

Crowley Maritime also received awards of excellence and merit in the "Single Advertisement" category, while Gabriel Technologies, Freightliner, Canadian Pacific Railway, Maryland Transit Administration and BSY Associates Inc. obtained awards of merit.

In the "Advertising Campaign" category, FedEx Freight and P&O Nedlloyd Logistics received awards of excellence. TMCA presented awards of merit to Amtrak, Robin Shepherd Group, Gabriel Technologies, MTA New York City Transit, Con-Way Transportation Services, Chicago Transit Authority, Freightliner, Fort Worth Transportation Authority, Crowley Maritime, GO Transit and the American Public Transportation Association.

FedEx Freight also received an award of excellence in the "Direct Marketing" category, while Robin Shepherd Group, Regional Transportation District, Pilot Air Freight and Union Tank Car Co. obtained awards of merit.

In the "Communications Collateral" category, TMCA presented awards of excellence and merit to Robin Shepherd Group, Freightliner and Amtrak, and awards of merit to PBB Global Logistics, San Joaquin Regional Transit District, CPR, Old Dominion Freight Line Inc., GO Transit, Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority, P&O Nedlloyd and FedEx Freight.

Winners in the "Publications" category include Clark County Department of Aviation, award of excellence; and FedEx Freight, Norfolk Southern Corp., Dallas Area Rapid Transit, Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. and Amtrak, awards of merit.

In the "New Media" category, Con-Way Transportation Services received an award of excellence, and Amtrak, Gabriel Technologies, Roadway Express Inc. and Saint John Port Authority obtained awards of merit.

Roadway Express also received an award of merit in the "Audio Visual" category, along with Chicago Transit Authority and Freightliner.

In the "Special Events" category, Amtrak won an award of excellence, while the Port of New Orleans, Robin Shepherd Group, Metrolink and Riverside Transit Agency took home awards of merit.

Finally, TMCA presented awards of merit in the "Media Relations" category to UPS, PBB Global Logistics, Schneider National Inc. and Porter Novelli.
