Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) recently announced plans to team up with I-GO, a car sharing program, to conduct a one-year pilot through which the authority will have cars for rent at or near five rail stations.
I-GO members will be able to access automobiles at the Damen Station on the O’Hare branch of the Blue Line, Western Station on the Brown Line, and Addison and Thorndale stations on the Red Line. CTA also will have vehicles available under the Brown and Red Line tracks on Lincoln at Wrightwood, within walking distance of the Diversey and Fullerton stations.
"Combined with the convenience of public transit, car sharing provides an alternative to private car ownership and has the potential to attract more drivers to public transit," said CTA President Frank Kruesi in a prepared statement.
I-GO members must pay a $75 one-time membership fee and a mileage-based fee of $6 per hour and 50 cents per mile.
