Johnstown America Corp. recently delivered 120 Bethgon® II coal cars to Entergy Services Inc., expanding the electric utility's Johnstown America-built coal-car fleet to more than 3,000.
Entergy plans to use the 53-foot, 122-ton capacity cars to move coal in unit trains from Wyoming's Powder River Basin to the company's Arkansas and Louisiana plants.
In 1985, Johnstown America introduced the Aluminum BethGon, designed with a lighter tare weight, higher cubic capacity and better durability. BethGon II is the most commonly used aluminum coal gondola car in western coal service, according to a prepared statement.
Meanwhile, Johnstown America recently appointed J. Bard McLean Inc. to represent the car builder's eastern U.S. parts and rebuilding business.
McLean officials have more than 30 years' rail-car business experience and are third-generation manufacturers' representatives, Johnstown America said.
