Johnstown America delivers aluminum coal cars to southern utility
advertisement
Johnstown America Corp. March 27 delivered 273 BethGon® II aluminum coal-gondola cars to Houston-based Entergy Services Inc., which operates several southern U.S. power plants.
Entergy Services plans to use the 122-ton-capacity BethGon IIs in 120- to 135-car unit trains carrying coal from the Powder River Basin to the company's plants. Entergy Services' fleet of more than 3,000 cars all were built by Johnstown America.
The 53-foot BethGon IIs are designed to provide lighter tare weight, higher cubic capacity and better durability for long-haul coal moves, carrying loads up to 244,300 pounds and gross-rail loads up to 286,000 pounds.
Johnstown America, which builds BethGon IIs at its Danville, Ill., plant, in 1978 developed the BethGon aluminum coal gondola car.
