Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) soon will begin conducting an alternatives analysis study for a proposed light-rail line.
In conjunction with HNTB Corp. and a team of consultants, KCATA will examine corridor options between Kansas City, Mo.’s airport and zoo. The study also will address funding issues and the redirection of a 3/8-cent sales tax KCATA currently assesses to provide bus service.
In November, voters approved the light-rail plan and a measure to extend the transportation sales tax for 25 years. The ballot initiative mandates that, beginning in April 2009, the tax be dedicated to light rail, an aerial tram and electric shuttles.
