Later this month, Kansas City Southern de México S.A. de C.V. (KCSM) will launch a new institutional relations and right-of-way protection department.
The railroad will merge an existing institutional relations department with a judicial section that protects the right-of-way concession. The new department will authorize construction work within a federal zone, sanction parties that aren't authorized and protect the integrity of KCSM's right of way.
"Our objective is to have greater coordination to protect the right of way granted, thus increasing service safety and that of the general public," said KCSM President and Executive Representative José Zozaya in a prepared statement.
Institutional relations department leader David Eaton will head the new department. The railroad also promoted Edgar Guillaumín, institutional relations manager for the Center Zone, to assistant director for the new department. Vladimir Robles, institutional relations manager for the North Zone, will be responsible for protecting the right-of-way concession.
"We've seen how the right-of-way invasions and irregular settlements have increased," said Eaton. "The railroad companies' representatives have recently indicated this problem as a priority ... which is why we are taking these measures."
