On Jan. 17, Kansas City Southern announced plans to immediately begin serving the Port of Mobile, Ala.
Through an access agreement, KCS will be able to reach facilities served by The Alabama State Docks and Central Gulf Railroad, and interchange with CSX Transportation.
KCS plans to access the port from Jackson, Miss., through a combination of haulage and trackage rights with Canadian National Railway Co.
"With access to the Port of Mobile, KCS now offers customers service to seven U.S. gulf ports, more than any other rail carrier," said Larry Stevenson, KCS senior vice president of marketing and sales, in a prepared statement.
