KCS obtains trackage rights to Illinois Central's Mississippi line

Surface Transportation Board recently approved Illinois Central Railroad Co.'s plan to grant Kansas City Southern trackage rights to a 92.5-mile line between Jackson and Palmer, Miss.

KCS and IC owner Canadian National Railway Co. previously reached a trackage-rights deal and sought STB's approval.

The line will enable KCS — which connects with IC at Jackson — to move traffic currently handled by IC per a haulage agreement with CN. The transaction also will enable KCS to improve its operating efficiency between Jackson and Gulfport, Miss., KCS officials believe.
