KCS reopens Oklahoma intermodal ramp after three-year hiatus
advertisement
Kansas City Southern plans March 18 to reopen its Sallisaw, Okla., intermodal ramp, which the railroad closed in 1999 because of changing market conditions.
KCS officials believe local shippers now are switching from trailers to containers and doublestacks because containerized equipment is more economical and decreases the risk of product damage, according to a prepared statement.
The rebuilt Sallisaw ramp — which primarily will handle local shippers' inbound and outbound shipments — would offer KCS better fluidity for freight and local traffic after the railroad moves switching activities to its Heavener, Okla., yard.
