Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Kansas City Southern recently marked the one-year anniversary of its Transportation Service Plan (TSP), which is designed to ensure the right car is on the right train on the right day.
According to recent measurements, TSP is working. At 2003's end, KCS was averaging 70 percent right car/right train/right day performance; the railroad's year-to-date average is 75 percent.
"In addition to having a solid plan, KCS is equipped with car scheduling tools in [Management Control System], and everyone is working together to execute the plan," said KCS Vice President of Transportation Mike Chapman in a prepared statement. "We will continuously work toward putting the right car on the right train on the right day 100 percent of the time."
TSP was designed by marketing, intermodal, mechanical and transportation teams. Field managers, including superintendents and trainmasters, and mechanical and engineering personnel help execute the plan.
