Kansas City Southern de México S.A. de C.V. recently signed a letter of intent with Mexican state Nuevo León to jointly develop a regional logistics hub within KCS’ NAFTA transportation corridor.

The parties agreed to:
• decrease right-of-way “invasions,” close illegal grade crossings, preserve and utilize railroad facilities of “cultural or historical significance,” and boost train velocity by lifting several speed restrictions;
• study the cost and feasibility of grade separations under the umbrella of the Programa de Convivencia Urbano-Ferroviaria and coordination of Mexico’s secretary for communications and transportation;
• synchronize crossing warning devices with Sistema Integral de Tránsito Metropolitano, the Monterrey Metropolitan central traffic signaling system; and
• promote Alto Total, Mexico’s version of Operation Lifesaver.
