On March 30, Kansas City Southern de México S.A. de C.V. (KCSM) and Rehrig Pacific Co. (RPC) marked the opening of a new transload facility at an industrial park in Querétaro, Mexico.
RPC will operate and KCSM will serve the facility, which features an unloading platform and two tracks with the capacity to handle 19 rail cars.
More manufacturers are locating facilities in Querétaro, a vast industrial area, and there is “significant potential” to provide additional rail service in the area, Kansas City Southern officials said in an item posted on the “KCS News” web page.
“Querétaro [is] a target market ripe for conversion from truck to rail,” said KCS Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing Patrick Ottensmeyer. “We will be aggressively marketing our intermodal, transload and carload conversion opportunities in this burgeoning market.”
