On May 11 and 12, Kansas City Southern de México S.A. de C.V. (KCSM) sales and marketing executives visited Brownsville, Texas, to strengthen relationships with the Port of Brownsville, Brownsville & Rio Grande International Railroad (BRG), Rio Valley Switching Co., Gulfstream Marine and other area companies.

The sales team tried to gain a better understanding of the port’s infrastructure, analyze traffic flows and gather information about a proposed rail bridge between Brownsville and Matamoros, Mexico. In addition, KCSM transportation executives reviewed border crossing and interchange procedures with BRG officials.

KCSM execs believe the railroad can grow business in Brownsville in several commodities, such as steel slabs, scrap materials, plastics and agricultural products.

"The port and BRG are strategic partners with whom we are developing a mutual plan to expand cross-border rail flows," said David Eaton, a KCSM official, in an item posted on the “KCS News” website.
