Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
In October, Kansas City Southern de México S.A. de C.V. (KCSM) crews began reconfiguring two yards to expand capacity and increase train speed.
In Saltillo, Coahuila, workers are extending a line to the yard’s northern end, building independent lines and realigning curves to increase yard train speed to about 27 mph. The reconfiguration is part of a larger project under which KCSM is double tracking a line from Higueras to Encantada.
In Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, crews are dismantling an existing passenger-train yard and constructing two new tracks to increase yard train speed to 27 mph. The reconfiguration is part of a larger project calling for the construction of double track between the International Bridge in Laredo, Texas, and Sanchez Yard south of Nuevo Laredo.
KCSM expects to complete both projects in March 2007.
