On May 28, Kansas City Southern de México S.A. de C.V.’s (KCSM) San Luis Potosi, Mexico, shop rolled out the first four locomotives re-stenciled with KCSM lettering. A team of seven technicians spent 40 hours re-stenciling and renumbering the engines, which were placed in service on a line between Valle de Mexico and Nuevo Laredo.

During the next 10 months, KCSM plans to re-stencil and renumber the remainder of its locomotive fleet as part of regularly scheduled maintenance. The railroad is renumbering its international fleet to align numbers with a locomotive’s characteristics, horsepower and special equipment, and ensure consistency during operations in the United States and Mexico, KCSM said.

In December 2005, Kansas City Southern changed TFM S.A. de C.V.’s name to Kansas City Southern de México to reflect the railroad’s U.S. and Mexican ties, and common ownership.
