Kentucky Soybean Board to join Soy Transportation Coalition

The Kentucky Soybean Board soon will become the ninth state soybean board to join the Soy Transportation Coalition (STC). Kentucky’s board will officially become a member on Oct. 1, the start of fiscal-year 2011.

Gerry Hayden, a producer from Calhoun, Ky., will serve as the state board’s representative on STC’s board.

“Our infrastructure — whether locks and dams, highways and bridges, or our rail network — is in significant need of modernization and investment,” said Hayden in a prepared statement. “Farmers therefore need to be active in promoting a transportation system that continues to allow U.S. agriculture to be competitive in an increasingly global economy.”

Established in 2007, STC now comprises nine state soybean boards, the
American Soybean Association and United Soybean Board. The organization aims to help the soybean industry benefit from a cost-effective, reliable and competitive transportation system.
