The city of Yong-In, Korea, recently awarded a $600 million contract to the Yong-In LRT Consortium to design and build an 11.5-mile rapid transit system.

The consortium comprises Bombardier Transportation, Korean civil works contractors Daelim Industrial Co. Ltd., Hanil Engineering and Construction Co. Ltd and Korea Development Co., and Korean electrical and mechanical system contractors Hanjin Heavy Industries Co. and Iljin Electric Co.

Under its $200 million portion of the contract, Bombardier will provide 30 driverless Advanced Rapid Transit technology vehicles, CITYFLO® 650 automatic train control technology, communications systems, project management, systems engineering and integration, testing and commissioning.

Serving 15 stations, the double-tracked, mostly elevated line will link the Seoul subway via Yong-In City and Everland, the region’s recreational and entertainment capital, according to a prepared statement.

Bombardier also obtained a contract to operate and maintain the system for up to 35 years. Bombardier will receive $120 million for the first 10 years; if four five-year options are exercised, the contract could increase by $294 million.
