LA MTA closer to constructing Exposition light-rail line

Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA MTA) recently approved the Final Environmental Impact Statement/Report for the Exposition light-rail extension and decided on a route.
The approval will enable the authority to begin construction on the nine-mile, eight-station line next year pending a Record of Decision from the Federal Transit Administration.
Running from downtown Los Angeles’ Metro Center to Culver City, the line will include an undercrossing between Jefferson Boulevard and Trousdale Parkway; aerial station and grade separation in La Brea; station parking facility at the La Cienega station; and a grade separation at Jefferson Boulevard near Ballona Creek.
LA MTA will fund the $640 million project with local dollars instead of federal New Starts funds to keep the project on track for a June 2010 completion. The agency plans to eventually extend the line to Santa Monica.
