The American Public Transportation Association recently named the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA MTA) the 2006 Outstanding Public Transportation System. This is the first time LA MTA has received the award, which recognizes a large agency’s efficiency and effectiveness.

During the past year, LA MTA began constructing the tunnel for the underground portion of the Eastside light-rail extension linking Pasadena and downtown Los Angeles with Little Tokyo, the Arts District, Boyle Heights and East L.A.; posted record ridership on the Metro Blue Line between downtown L.A. and Long Beach; continued plans for the Exposition light-rail line, which will operate between L.A. and Culver City; and expanded bus service.

In addition, a recent survey showed LA MTA customer satisfaction at an all-time-high 84 percent.
