Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
To help overcome a projected $1.8 billion operating budget deficit over the next 10 years, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA MTA) has proposed a two-phase fare increase.
The authority would raise daily passes from $3 to $5; weekly passes, from $14 to $20; and monthly passes, from $52 to $75 on July 1. Base fares would remain at $1.25, but LA MTA would increase base fares to $2 on Jan. 1, 2009. The authority also proposes to then raise daily, weekly and monthly passes to $8, $32 and $120, respectively, on Jan. 1, 2009.
The authority will hold a public hearing May 24 to obtain feedback on the fare proposal.
