Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA MTA) recently shaved five minutes off Metro Gold Line local and express train travel times after modifying operations and upgrading train-control systems.
Local and express trains now travel between downtown Los Angeles and East Pasadena in 29 minutes and 24 minutes, respectively. In addition, LA MTA has increased local train service from four trains per hour to six during peak periods.
Since launching Gold Line express service in February, average weekday ridership has grown steadily, reaching an all-time-high of 21,000 boardings in September. The line, which opened in July 2003, is being extended six miles to East Los Angeles.
