The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority last week authorized spending $454.5 million on 169 transportation projects, including several involving rail.

The authority will spend $28.9 million on the Nogales Street grade separation project, which calls for lowering a roadway and building a rail bridge to separate auto traffic from two Union Pacific Railroad tracks.

The agency also authorized $2.4 million for the Eastside Light-Rail Pedestrian Linkage project. The authority plans to extend new Metro stations further into the surrounding community and improve pedestrian safety near Metro Gold Line stations. The project calls for installing pedestrian lights; stamped crosswalks and decorative sidewalks; bicycle racks; trash receptacles; and ramps for disabled persons.
