L.A.-area sanitation districts contract J.L. Patterson to design landfill rail spur

J.L. Patterson & Associates Inc. (JLP) recently obtained a contract to provide preliminary engineering services for a Mesquite Regional Landfill and Railroad Spur from the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County.

JLP will design a five-mile rail spur and intermodal yard for the landfill, located about 200 miles from L.A.

Because several L.A.-area landfills are scheduled to close, the sanitation districts have been studying a Waste-by-Rail concept, under which solid waste is shipped by rail to remotely located landfills.
