LIRR presents options to increase storage capacity
advertisement
During October and November, MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) officials expect to visit all Port Jefferson Branch stations to present electric-car storage-capacity expansion strategies to passengers.
LIRR plans soon to conduct an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to analyze a proposal to add 16 tracks to store cars. The project would enable LIRR to meet long-term storage needs, add trains on the branch, accommodate projected ridership growth, provide new service to Grand Central Terminal and increase the number of available spare cars, according to a prepared statement.
The EIS will evaluate six sites within one-quarter mile of the tracks between Huntington and Smithtown.
