Yesterday, MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) broke ground on a new MTA Police facility in Central Islip, N.Y.

The two-story, 12,000-square-foot facility will replace trailers that currently house the MTA Police District One patrol force. The station will enable the transit police department to improve communications, better conduct investigations and respond more quickly to emergencies in Suffolk County, LIRR said.

The $11.5 million facility will house commanding officers, patrol officers, detectives and administrative staff. The building will feature training space and a motor pool to maintain and repair emergency-response vehicles.
