Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
During the next several weeks, MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) will install 15 new ticket vending machines at 11 high-volume stations.
The machines will sell most LIRR ticket types and accept credit and debit cards only.
Once the machines are installed, LIRR will relocate several older machines to other higher-volume stations. The agency currently operates 144 full-service machines, which sell most ticket types and accept both debit and credit cards, and 112 daily ticket machines that sell one-way and round-trip tickets.
During the next few weeks, LIRR also will begin accepting credit and debit card payments at station ticket office windows, which currently only accept cash.
