Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Last month, Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin named Jean Lapierre minister of transport to succeed Tony Valeri, who was named leader of the government in the House of Commons.
Lapierre was elected to the House of Commons from 1979 to 1990, and was re-elected this year. He previously served as parliamentary secretary to a number of ministers, and as minister of state for youth, and fitness and amateur sport.
Between 1974 and 1979, Lapierre served as special assistant to the minister of consumer and corporate affairs, and executive assistant to the minister of state for urban affairs.
In 1992, he became a radio host for CKAC — a position he held until recently. In 2001, he also served as a news anchor for the TQS television network.
