Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Last week, the Las Vegas Monorail Co. entered into a partnership with Google Transit, a Google Maps-like product that enables online users to enter the specifics of a destination and determine public transportation options.
By entering such basic information as starting and ending addresses, and time-of-day departures and arrivals, online users can generate a detailed list of transit options — including directions with maps, itineraries, estimated trip time and fare cost-versus-driving comparisons — for Las Vegas Monorail transportation on the Las Vegas Strip.
In operation since December 2005, Google Transit recently was integrated into Google Earth. The online service offers public transit information for such metropolitan areas as Burbank, Orange County, and San Diego, Calif.; Tampa, Fla.; Honolulu, Hawaii; Duluth, Minn.; Reno, Nev.; Eugene and Portland, Ore.; Pittsburgh; Austin, Texas; and Seattle, as well as regional and national rail networks, domestic airlines and ferries in Japan.
