Earlier this week, the League of Railway Industry Women (LRIW) presented its 2006 “Outstanding Woman of the Year Award” to the multi-talented — and multi-titled — Jalene Forbis, director of governmental affairs for the McCloud Railway Co., vice president of advertising and guest services for the Shasta Sunset Dinner Train, and executive director of the California Short Line Railroad Association (CSLRA). Sponsored by Progressive Railroading, the award recognizes an individual’s dedication, commitment and contribution to the railroad industry.

A fifth-generation railroader who’s been in the business since 1996, Forbis received the award during the LRIW’s ninth annual luncheon, held Sept. 19 at the Chicago Hilton & Towers.

During her five-year CSLRA tenure, Forbis has built the association’s membership to its highest-ever level (28 roads). For the past three years, she also has served as vice chair of the American Short Line & Regional Railroad Association’s legislative policy committee, whose most recent achievement was helping create the tax credit bill for track maintenance and improvement. She’s also a member of the North American Rail Alliance, a group that aims to define and prioritize the legislative agendas of Class Is and short lines.

During the luncheon, the LRIW also presented its “Member of the Year” award to Victoria Bowermaster, a design engineer for A. Stucki Co.
