Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
Nordco Corp. recently received Orion Energy Systems’ Environmental Stewardship Award for using lights that are reducing the track maintenance equipment supplier’s power consumption.
Nordco installed 234 of Orion Energy’s high-intensity fluorescent lights to replace 226 high-pressure sodium lamps at its Oak Creek, Wis., plant. The lights have helped reduce the company’s energy usage by 36 percent and cut energy costs.
“We are an environmentally conscious company,” said Nordco Vice President Don Ball in a prepared statement. ‘[About] 10 to 12 years ago, we went to a water-based paint so we would have no environmental issues with hazardous waste.”
Founded in 1926, Nordco markets equipment used to build, maintain and repair railroad tracks. The company’s product line includes machines to replace rail and ties, surface ballast and clear rights of way.
