Local funding for BART hinges on Nov. 4 vote

On Nov. 4, San Francisco residents will vote on Proposition K, a proposal that would implement a new transportation expenditure plan, including funds for Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART).

If approved, Proposition K would extend the half-cent sales tax to fund local transportation from 2010 to 2034.

The proposition is expected to raise $2.35 billion during the next 30 years. Under the proposal, BART would be eligible for $53 million — plus federal and state matching funds — for capital projects, station access, safety and capacity improvements, system maintenance and renovation, and transportation and land-use coordination, according to a prepared statement.
