advertisement
Earlier this week, the Board of Harbor Commissioners approved a $716 million budget for the Port of Long Beach, Calif., for fiscal-year 2011, a 19 percent reduction vs. FY2010’s budget. The spending plans includes $474 million for development projects and $71 million for environmental programs, such as the development of clean-air technologies.
The budget projects a 12 percent cut in operating expenses by maintaining staff levels and reducing non-personnel costs. Revenue from container terminals — which account for three-quarters of overall revenue — are expected to rise 4 percent.
The budget now will be reviewed by Long Beach officials.
Meanwhile, the board appointed Noel Hacegaba executive officer to succeed acting Executive Officer Diane Jacobus, who plans to retire. A former assistant chief of staff for the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s Office, Hacegaba most recently served environmental services firm Republic Services.
