MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) recently awarded a design contract for the construction of a 325-space parking lot at Ronkonkoma Station to HDR/Daniel Frankfurt.

Estimated to cost $3.9 million, the lot will be funded via the MTA LIRR Capital Program.

LIRR officials expect design work to be completed in spring 2008. Construction of the lot — which will include new drainage, asphalt paving, striping, sidewalks/curbs, signage, lighting, fencing and landscaping — likely will begin in third-quarter 2008, LIRR says.

With the new lot, Ronkonkoma Station will offer 6,095 parking spaces.
