Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) recently implemented a system to provide passengers email notifications on service changes.

Customers who sign up for the service will receive regular service advisories and timetable changes, and alerts and updates on major service disruptions.

"We can get timely messages to our customers, tailored to what’s pertinent to their travel, and in a format that they would like to receive it — through traditional computer-based email or via pagers," said LIRR President James Dermody in a prepared statement.
